Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

How do I sign in?
On first launch, search for your school district by name. Lumina Grades will open your district's official Infinite Campus portal in a secure embedded browser; sign in there as you normally would. Your password never leaves the portal.

I can't find my school district.
Lumina Grades works with any district that uses Infinite Campus. If your district isn't showing up in the search, please contact us with the district name and we will investigate.

What happens if I close the app?
All school data — grades, assignments, GPA, classes — is held only in temporary memory and is cleared the moment you close the app. The next time you open it, a fresh sign-in and sync occur. This is by design and is part of our privacy posture.

Features

What is the what-if calculator?
Inside any class detail screen, you can drop low scores, simulate upcoming assignments, or model a final exam to see exactly how it would change your overall grade. None of these edits leave your device or affect your real grades.

How does the AI Tutor work?
The AI Tutor offers four prompts — "Grade my trajectory," "Plan rest of semester," "Where should I focus?" and "How do I get a specific grade?" When you tap a prompt, a structured request containing only the class name, current grade, and grade-category weights is sent to an AI processing service for a personalized response. We never send your name, username, or individual assignment scores. The AI Tutor is opt-in: nothing is transmitted unless you actively engage it.

The AI Tutor's response isn't accurate. What should I do?
AI-generated responses are guidance, not authoritative academic advice. Always verify important suggestions with your teacher or advisor. If you find the AI consistently inaccurate, please send us feedback through Settings → "Send feedback."

Privacy

What data does Lumina Grades collect?
We collect a single anonymous event at sign-in (app version, platform, district domain, and a pseudonymous identifier that cannot be linked to your identity). Optional feedback messages are also stored with that same pseudonymous identifier. We collect nothing else. Read the full Privacy Policy.

How do I turn off analytics?
Settings → Privacy → toggle "Help improve Lumina Grades" off. The change takes effect immediately; your next sign-in will not send a usage event.

Can you delete my data?
The data we collect is intentionally pseudonymous and cannot be linked back to a specific user, so we don't have a technical way to locate records belonging to any individual. The controls we provide instead are: the opt-out toggle (stops future collection), and automatic deletion of all records after 90 days.

Troubleshooting

The app shows my grades incorrectly.
All grades are fetched in real time from your district's Infinite Campus portal. If a number is wrong, it likely reflects what your school portal currently shows; please check the portal directly. If the portal is correct but the app is wrong, contact us with the class name and the discrepancy.

The app keeps signing me out.
Infinite Campus session cookies expire after a period set by your district. If you are signed out unexpectedly, simply sign in again. We do not control session lifetimes — those are managed by your district.

I'm an App Store reviewer. How do I test without a real school account?
On the sign-in screen, tap the "Try Demo mode" link at the bottom. This loads a fictitious student account with sample data so you can test every feature without authenticating into a real school portal. Demo mode does not send telemetry or submit feedback — it is fully sandboxed.
