Privacy Policy

Lumina Grades is designed with privacy as a guiding principle. Your school information is processed on your device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers. This policy describes the limited information we collect, how it is used, how long it is retained, and the choices available to you.

Information stored on your device

When you select your school district during initial setup, the district name and sign-in URL are saved locally on your device so you do not need to search for the district at each launch. This information is not transmitted to our servers.

School information

Grades, assignments, attendance items, GPA, classes, teachers, and other information retrieved from your school's Infinite Campus portal are held only in your device's temporary memory for the duration of your session. This information is not written to permanent storage on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. When you close the application, all such information is cleared, and a fresh authentication and synchronization occur at the next launch.

Authentication

Sign-in is performed through your school district's official portal, presented within a secure embedded browser. Your password is entered directly into the official login form and is never visible to or stored by Lumina Grades. Session credentials established by the portal remain within your device's system storage during the session and are scoped to your district's domain.

Anonymous usage information

To understand aggregate usage of the application, a single anonymous event is recorded at sign-in. This event contains only: a pseudonymous identifier that cannot be linked back to your identity, the application version, the device platform, and the domain of your school district.

We do not collect your name, username, grades, assignments, school name, district name, or IP address as part of this event. Records are retained for ninety (90) days and are then deleted.

You may opt out at any time by toggling "Help improve Lumina Grades" off under Settings → Privacy. The change takes effect immediately.

AI Tutor

The AI Tutor is an optional feature and is engaged only when you actively select one of the suggested prompts within the feature. When you do, a structured request is transmitted to a third-party AI processing provider. The request contains only the selected prompt category, the name of the relevant class, your current grade for that class, and the weighting structure of the class's grading categories.

We do not transmit your name, username, district name, IP address, individual assignment scores, or any free-form text from you. If you do not engage the AI Tutor, no information is transmitted to the AI processing provider.

Feedback submissions

If you choose to submit feedback through the Settings screen, your message is transmitted together with the anonymous pseudonymous identifier described above. This allows us to associate repeat correspondence from the same user without identifying who you are. Submissions are limited to two per day to prevent abuse. Feedback records are retained for ninety (90) days and are then deleted.

Information we do not collect or share

Network communications

Information retrieved from your school district is transmitted directly between your device and your district's Infinite Campus servers using industry-standard transport encryption. Communications with our limited backend services — anonymous usage events, optional feedback submissions, and optional AI Tutor requests — are also transmitted using industry-standard transport encryption.

Data retention

Children's privacy

Lumina Grades is intended for use by students within the context of their school district's authorized programs. The application authenticates exclusively through your school district's official Infinite Campus portal, and we collect no information that would identify the age, name, school identifier, or grade level of any user. The limited information described under "Anonymous usage information" cannot be linked back to a specific individual — including a child.

Because we do not collect identifying information, we are not in a position to know whether a particular user is a child. Parents or guardians who wish to prevent any anonymous usage information from being recorded for a student may do so at any time by disabling the "Help improve Lumina Grades" option under Settings → Privacy on the student's device. Educational records (grades, assignments, attendance, and similar information) shown in the application never leave the student's device through Lumina Grades and are not stored on our servers; questions regarding those records should be directed to the school district that maintains them.

Security

We employ technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the limited information described in this policy, including industry-standard transport encryption and access controls on our backend services. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure; we work to maintain protections appropriate to the limited nature of the information we handle.

Your choices

The anonymous identifier used in this application is generated through a one-way process and cannot be reversed or linked to any individual user. This design protects your privacy by ensuring that the limited records we collect cannot be tied back to your real identity — but it also means we have no technical means to locate the records belonging to any specific person. As a result, we are not able to fulfill individualized requests to access or delete particular records held in our backend services.

The controls available to you are:

Educational records (grades, assignments, attendance, GPA, classes, teachers) shown in the application never leave your device through Lumina Grades. For any request relating to those records, please contact your school district, which is the custodian of that data.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the application or other appropriate means before they take effect. Your continued use of Lumina Grades following any revision indicates your acceptance of the revised policy.

Contact

For general questions about this policy, the application, or its features, please see our Support page. As explained above, we are not able to perform individualized lookups or deletions of records held in our backend services because those records are not linked to identifying information; please use the in-app controls described above to manage what is recorded.
